Colonization of Colombia
The reason why Spain colonized Colombia: The main region of Spanish to take over countries was gold to increase their economy, to bring glory to one's self or for one's nation and god, to bring Catholicism to other countries. The region for establishing a colony in Colombia was to spread their religion. The Spanish were Catholic, and they wanted to do missionary work and spread the Catholic religion that is why there is much of central and South America today practice the Catholic religion because of the efforts of the Spanish, and it was done often by forcing them. The most violent exploitation was governed by the Spanish empire. They discovered a mountain full of silver in the Incan empire and they forced every native American to work in mines for a given amount of time. But for refining silver they needed mercury and they got it from other mines. Mining silver is very dangerous because of poisonous dust and fumes. The conditions were so bad that some natives even went to injure their children in order to save them from it. They treated them very badly.
The goal of Spanish exploration: The Spanish had several goals when they established colonies in the Americas. One goal had to do with economics. The Spanish were hoping to find resources, mainly gold and silver, that would be a boost to their treasury and to their economy. The Spanish did find a lot of gold and silver in the Americas. Establishing colonies would also allow Spain to increase their trade. This would also benefit the Spanish economy. Another reason for establishing colonies in the Americas was to spread their religion. The Spanish were Catholics and they wanted to do missionary work and spread the Catholic religion. Much of central America today practices the Catholic religion because of the efforts of the Spanish. Finally, Spain wanted more land to control so they could compete with their rivals. Great Britain and France had established colonies in the Americas, and Spain wanted to do so also. Spain was competing with other European countries for power and control throughout the world. They wanted colonies in the Americas to be on the same level as Great Britain and France, as well as other colonial powers.
why was Spain known as the most powerful country?: Spain was the wealthiest and the most powerful country in the 1500s. In the 1500s, during the age of exploration Spain become the most powerful and wealthiest country in Europe. This was due to their colonies in the Americas and the gold and great wealth they took from them which was exceeded by France in the 1600s, which in turn was surpassed by England/Britain and the Netherlands in the 1700s. By the middle of the 16th century, Spain had created an American empire. They took the stocks of gold from the Aztecs and Inca empires.
Did Spain provide any benefit to Colombia? Good weapons and horses. These reduce the Colombian population and enabled Spain to take over Colombian. Most Colombia cultures have been changed or destroyed due to centuries of western colonization. However the Spanish people forced the Colombian to speak their Spanish language, it is now the official language of Colombia. Most of the people in Colombia is Catholic which came from Spain.
How did the indigenous people view the Spanish people? The native Americans at the time of first Spanish contact viewed the Spanish as gods. Spanish spread around to prove how simple the native Americans were. After colonizing the country the Spanish people treat the indigenous people so badly and made them work in many dangerous places, where they could lose their lives and most of them did lose their lives by working on that dangerous place like the silver mines.
Since declaring independence on 20 July 1810 and achieving it in 1819, Columbia has changed its name seven times. Regional culture traditions are different, with a broad range of dissimilar groups that have unique customs, importance, social patterns, and cultural adjustments. These groups are classified into three cultures: those in the interior, the countryside, and the coastal regions. Only during elections, sporting events, and beauty pageants do the regional culture join for a common goal.
The South Americans were forced to learn the language of the country that colonized them, that is why we hear much Spanish in central and South American countries. when Spanish colonized Colombia they made the native people change over to Catholicism, they prohibited the practice of their own cultures, Christianity became the main religion throughout the Americas, and still is today. The main negative item that was traded was the disease. This exchange benefited Spanish (Europeans) more than native Americans because Europeans spread smallpox, a deadly disease to native Americans when they came to contact with them. Once the Spanish had taken over, many indigenous people were enslaved by the force of the Spanish people. Many peoples were forced to work on the silver mines which was very dangerous and during the work many of the native Americans were dead. After colonizing the countries Spain became the most powerful country and made a hierarchical society and occupied the top of the pyramid in terms of money, prestige, and power.
